Opening: Wednesday 26th of September at 7 pm.

Exhibition dates: 26th September – 10th November.

Talk and Brunch: 28th September at 11.30 a.m. conversation between art critic J.F. Yvars and Joan Cardells

Joan Cardell’s work is characterized by a constant, almost obsessive presence of specific objects that reflect the artist’s passion for the industrial world, for trade, ironmongery and traditional tailoring. His personal inventory of objects includes olives, pumpkins, jackets, trousers, water tanks, asbestos roofs, pomegranates, cods, melons, pots, roosters, ducks, and, recently, cobs.

These objects are archetypal images referring to ancient inventories of industrial ironmongery and shops where the artist has been fascinated by the anatomical study of materials. With sobriety and balance Cardells enjoys the pleasure of expressing himself with the basic elements of drawing: “common” paper and graphite, carrying out a meticulous exploration of the objects, now deprived of any symbolism. In Cardells’ works we cannot conceive sculpture and drawing separately; In a way that the small semi-geometric forms of asbestos, elements of construction of his first sculptures, are constantly and repeatedly reproduced in his drawings until becoming the texture itself of his objects.
