Luis Krauel (Barcelona, 1945)

Luis Krauel was born in Barcelona in 1945. His German, Catalan and English background made him acitizen of the world. Enrolled in the School of Arts and Crafts and the Cercle Artístic Sant Lluc, in Barcelona, he soon left the academy to train exhaustively in painting, developing his own creative language.

Krauel is a specialist in labour law, to which he was committed under the Franco regime, but he never abandoned painting, searching for his own expressive path. In the 80’s he settled in the Empordà región of Girona, and since then has been devoted full-time to painting, especially working in large formats. With his travels to MoroccoKrauel has been strongly influenced by calligraphic signs and colours that later appeared in his work of primitive, happy human beings set out through schematic forms.
