Joaquim Budesca was born in 1930 in Vilanova i la Geltrú (Barcelona). Budesca is a self-taught painter, draftsman and printmaker who in the fifties began in the art world drawing cartoons. Yet it was not until the seventies that Budesca had his first solo exhibition of paintings, featuring watercolour landscapes. From that moment on Budesca truly emerged as an artist with a major pictorial production, though he never neglected his love for illustration. In 2004 his work began to move towards greater abstraction and synthesis, coming to express, in his more recent creations, a more indefinite world.

Budesca’s work is characterized by the exaltation of nature, as dominated by the light of the Mediterranean. With this light his landscapes and seascapes, charged with a rich and vibrant chromatism, are arranged by means of multiple spots, as a process of conceptualization. Budesca gives his oils the solemnity of a direct, spontaneous and instinctive touch, inspired by water and the sea as symbols of life, and as a reflection on the course of human existence.

Joaquim Budesca has a long exhibition portfolio, including both individual and group shows, and his work is found in important collections, including the Caja de Ahorros, Valladolid, the Fundació d'Art Banc de Sabadell, Sabadell, Caixa Penedès, Museum Morera, Lleida, City of Vilanova i la Geltrú (Barcelona), City of Sitges (Barcelona), the Vila Casas Foundation, Barcelona, and the Hotel de la Ville de Estillac (France), amongst others.
